Welcome employers!

Isenberg highly values its recruiting partnerships with a broad network of premier companies. We are happy to connect employers with Isenberg’s talented and highly-skilled students virtually or via a best-in-class service experience during an in-person recruiting visit.

POST A POSITION

UMass Amherst uses Handshake, a free job board and internship platform that employers can use to post a job or internship. This allows students and recent alumni to search and easily apply according to the directions you specify in your job ad.

  1. If you don’t have a Handshake account, signing up is free and easy. Click here for a step-by-step process with screenshots – it only takes a few minutes.
  2. After signing up with Handshake, be sure to add University of Massachusetts Amherst as one of your schools so you can post jobs to our students and alumni.

Employers please review our Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines for recruiting.

PLAN A RECRUITING VISIT

Isenberg’s dedicated Interview Suite (located in the new Isenberg Innovation Hub, N207) offers multiple private offices companies may use for conducting on-campus interviews. It is important to request interview space well in advance to secure your preferred date, as space fills up quickly. Please contact Noelle Menard, Career Center Coordinator, at nmenard@isenberg.umass.edu to request on-campus interview space. Click here for helpful information regarding visiting us on campus.

INCREASE YOUR CAMPUS PRESENCE

Hold an Information Session (Virtual or In Person)

Holding an information session can be an effective way to enhance your company’s visibility and reputation among students. Employers are encouraged to plan the information session in collaboration with an Isenberg club/organization that targets students interested in their industry or the functional areas for which they are recruiting. Please contact club leadership directly to explore partnership opportunities.

Host a Meet & Greet Table

Employers may host a table in the Isenberg Learning Commons free of charge (only one day per academic semester, please). Hosting an information table is a great way to increase your company’s name recognition within the school and to have more lengthy conversations with individual students than would be feasible at a career fair type of event. Isenberg will provide a 6’ table on which company promotional materials and/or snacks may be displayed; recruiters typically reserve a table for a 3-4 hour period.

Schedule “20 Minutes with…” (Virtual or In Person)

A “20 Minutes With…” schedule allows interested students to sign up for 20-minute appointments with a designated company representative in order to ask relevant questions about the job opportunity and the company. It also allows time for the company representative to get to know potential applicants on a one-on-one basis in a structured time period. These appointments are not meant to serve as interviews.

RECRUITING POLICIES

Recruiting Policies

Employers who recruit through the Chase Career Center are expected to adhere to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice, and the Chase Career Center policies and guidelines indicated on this web site.

Collection and use of data by the Chase Career Center is governed by The Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Non-Discrimination Policy

The University of Massachusetts makes its facilities and services available to employers who do not unlawfully discriminate in the selection of employees on the basis of basis of race, color, religion, creed, sex, age, marital status, national origin, mental or physical disability, political belief or affiliation, veteran status, or sexual orientation. Any employer who makes use of University of Massachusetts facilities must agree to abide by this policy.

All hiring tests must comply with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Work Authorization, Visa and Citizenship Status

The Immigration and Nationality Act prohibits citizenship status and national origin discrimination with respect to hiring, termination, and recruiting or referring for a fee (source). Employers should follow the best practices set forth by the Department of Justice. For example, the Department of Justice sanctioned language for employers to use when they don’t want to engage in immigration sponsorship is the following: “Applicants must be authorized to work in the US.”

Employers are allowed to ask questions regarding an applicant’s work authorization in the U.S., namely:

  • Are they currently work authorized?
  • Will they now or in the future require work authorization sponsorship from their employer?

Employers may not ask a candidate specifics about work authorization or ask them to produce documentation until an offer is accepted and in preparation for completing Form I-9.

Employers are not obliged to sponsor a candidate for work authorization, i.e. immigration sponsorship.  Immigration sponsorship can be temporary (e.g. H1B) or permanent (green card). This is discretionary and an employer is allowed to disqualify a candidate on the basis of lack of work authorized status.

Job Postings

All job listings are posted at the discretion of the Chase Career Center. We reserve the right to decline to post jobs that do not support the interests of the Isenberg School of Management and our students.

The Chase Career Center does not accept or post positions that:

  • Require a fee for training or participation.
  • Would employ students at a private residence.
  • Would employ students by a private individual with an unestablished business and no employment or work-for-hire contract. These parties are encouraged to post their openings on the UMass Amherst Student Job Board or in other outside sources such as craigslist or the local newspaper.

Unpaid internships must meet the requirements set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Offer Guidelines

The Isenberg School of Management subscribes to the NACE Reasonable Offer Deadlines Guidelines, which state the following:

“Experience shows the best employment decisions for both students and employers are those that are made without pressure and with the greatest amount of information. Students given sufficient time to attend career fairs, participate in on-campus interviews, and/or complete the interviewing in which they are currently engaged are more likely to make good long-term employment decisions and may be less likely to renege on job acceptances.”

When possible, we recommend providing students a minimum of three weeks to respond to any employment offer.

Any company that reneges on an offer to a student will be re-evaluated by the Director of Employer Engagement to determine if they will be eligible to participate in Isenberg’s on-campus recruiting program moving forward.

Third-Party Recruiter Policy

The National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE), the national professional association for college career services offices and employers, defines third-party recruiters as follows: “Third-party recruiters are agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment opportunities other than for their own needs. This includes entities that refer or recruit for profit or not for profit, and it includes agencies that collect student information to be disclosed to employers for purposes of recruitment and employment.”

Third-Party Recruiter Services at Isenberg

  • Third-party recruiters who are hiring for positions within their own organizations may participate in Isenberg’s On-Campus Recruiting Program. They may also be approved to attend Isenberg Career Day if space permits. However, a limited number of tables will be available and the Chase Career Center reserves the right to place such organizations on a waiting list until space needs have been determined.
  • Third-party recruiters who are hiring for positions outside their own organizations may not attend Isenberg Career Day, but may post a position on Handshake provided they meet the following conditions:
    • Select “Third-Party Staffing” as the Industry in their account profile.
    • Post all positions under their own organization/agency name.
    • Submit a complete job description that includes the name of the client(s) they are representing.
  • Third-party recruiters will not be granted access to Isenberg resume books.

By participating in these services, organizations agree that they will adhere to EEO standards in all recruiting activities, that no fee will be charged to any candidate at any time, and that organizations will not disclose student information under any circumstances to other entities without the student’s prior written consent.

Cannabis

The Chase Career Center does not allow on-campus recruitment and will not approve job or internship postings for organizations involved with the use, production, testing, or distribution of recreational or medical marijuana or any by-products that exceed the legal THC level. Because UMass receives federal funds, we follow federal laws regarding THC-containing products.

Alcohol

Employers are expected to follow University Alcoholic Beverage Policies. In addition, the Chase Career Center abides by the NACE Principles for Professional Practice regarding the use of alcohol in college recruiting. The Principles document states “Serving alcohol should not be part of the recruitment process on or off campus. This includes receptions, dinners, company tours, etc.” The Chase Career Center requests that employers support this no-alcohol policy while recruiting our students.

Tobacco-Free UMass Amherst

UMass Amherst is a Tobacco, Smoke and Vape-Free campus. Read more here.

Policy Violations

Employers who knowingly violate Chase Career Center policies may be denied access to Chase facilities and services during the subsequent recruiting season.
